You might have been thinking about working as a dental hygienist. If you have, then one of the things that you need to consider is the dental hygienist salary that you can expect to make. Some people become so excited about a new career field that they forget to think about how much money they can expect to earn.
The amount of money that anyone would earn in a particular career field is important, so that a person can manage their lifestyle expectations correctly. Some people are motivated towards a career field strictly for its earning potential, and the lifestyle that they want to live. On the other hand, some people might be really interested in a career field, but when they find out that they won’t be earning too much money, they might be dissuaded from the career field, or they might decide that they need another source of income to supplement their new career choice.
So with this in mind, the latest figures have shown that a dental hygienist salary on average is around $66k a year on average. There are, of course, those who make more than this, and those who make less. The determining factor with regards to earnings is the market where the dental office is located, the clientele that the dental office attracts, whether or not it’s privately owned, and corporately owned. For example, an exclusive dental practice in Los Angeles is going to attract high-end clients. Therefore, a dental hygienist working in such an office can expect to make more per year than a dental hygienist who works in a small dental clinic in the Mid-West.
Another consideration with regards to one’s yearly earnings is one’s length of experience, their education, and their pay structure. Of course, someone who is more experienced can command more money than someone just starting out. If the hygienist has been educated at a top rated program, they can command more money. Some hygienists work on commission, while some work on salary. Still, some will even charge a daily rate or an hourly rate as well.
Having said all of this, dental hygienists will continue to be in high demand. As long as human beings need their teeth tended to, dentists will need hygienists to assist them. The fact that this is an indefinite career field makes this very attractive. The pay for this career field is reasonable. It will allow the average working class to middle class person to live a comfortable lifestyle, especially if they are single. But again, one has to take their current assets and debts into account, when they thinking about making a transition into this career field, or others.
